How ingredient flags work

DRAFT — pending legal review. This text is a first-pass template generated from a standard product-safety scanner posture. It has not yet been reviewed by counsel. Triselle plans to commission a qualified lawyer (EU + US) before public launch.
Where the flags come from
Triselle ingredient flags are sourced from a combination of published research databases and AI classification with human review.
Trusted sources we cite
• IARC — International Agency for Research on Cancer (carcinogen classifications)
• REACH — EU chemical-registration framework (ECHA)
• EWG Skin Deep — Environmental Working Group cosmetics database
• CosIng — European Commission cosmetic ingredient list
• Health Canada — cosmetic ingredient hotlist + restrictions
• OpenFoodFacts — community-curated food ingredient database
• PetFoodAdvisor — pet-food safety ratings
• ConsumerLab — supplement testing
How a flag earns a place in the app
1. Each ingredient receives a severity score (1-5).
2. Each ingredient is associated with zero or more concern categories from a fixed 15-value taxonomy (endocrine disruptor, IARC carcinogen 1/2A/2B, developmental toxin, neurotoxin, respiratory irritant, skin allergen, aquatic toxin, persistent/bioaccumulative, species toxic to cat/dog/bird, autoimmune trigger, acute toxin).
3. AI-classified entries land with `verified=false` and enter a founder audit queue before they affect production scoring.
4. Every flag in the app carries at least one citation URL when severity is 2 or higher. If we cannot cite, we do not flag.
What we do NOT do
• We do not claim a product is "dangerous", "safe", "toxic", "cured", or "treated" anything.
• We do not provide medical advice or cosmetic-efficacy claims.
• We do not invent citations. If you see a citation in the app, the URL goes to a real source you can read yourself.
Caveats
• Severity is context-free by default. Personalized modes (Pregnancy, Asthma, Pet Dog, etc.) re-weight specific concerns so the score reflects your situation more accurately. We never use modes to surface a "diagnosis".
• Citations can rot. If a source URL 404s, please email support@triselle.app so we can fix it.
Audit + correction
Spot a flag you think is wrong? Email research@triselle.app with the ingredient name + your reasoning. We review every flag report and update the master database within 14 days.
